This is, hands down, the best rice krispies treat recipe you will ever eat. It’s no-bake, and thanks to my special twist on the recipe, its even more delicious than the original recipe you might be familiar with. If you are ready for the most incredible dessert…read on.
I have always loved a good crispy rice treat. Starting with those lunch box days with those beautiful blue foil-wrapped treats.
But when I went on the hunt for a homemade crispy rice treat, I could never find what I was truly craving. Most recipes call for wayyyy more cereal than what is really needed (in my opinion). If you use too much crispy rice cereal, then the delicious treat becomes too stiff. I prefer to cut down my ratio by about 40 grams of cereal. This preserves the marshmallow-y fluffiness.
Plus, throw a few chocolate goodies in there and oh my goodness… like I said, this is the best recipe.
The Process
First things first, gather all your ingredients and grease an 8×8 glass pan. In a large glass bowl, microwave the butter and marshmallow for 3 minutes. You’ll want to pause and stir the mixture every minute. Continue to warm in 30 second intervals until the mixture is velvety smooth.
Immediately add the crispy rice cereal and combine using a rubber spatula. Once things are mostly combined, add the optional M&Ms, saving about 10 grams for later.
Once combined, press the marshmallow goodness into an 8×8 greased glass pan. Then, top with the last 10 grams of M&Ms. Finally, let the Rice Krispies Treat recipe cool before cutting and serving.
These treats are best if served the same day to enjoy all the delicious, smushy, marshmallow yumminess.
The Tips
My most important tip: Move Quickly!
Marshmallow cools quickly, so once it’s melted and mixed with the butter, add the crispy rice cereal and M&Ms quickly. Be sure to have your pan greased and ready to go and a rubber spatula nearby!
Help! My bowl is covered in sticky marshmallows. How do I clean it?
While the marshmallow can get sticky really quickly after it is cooled off, don’t worry! Simply soak the bowl in warm soapy water for about 30 minutes, then scrub clean!
Why is this recipe in Grams?
Baking is a science and in science you want things to be exact and precise. The best way to do this is by weighing out your ingredients using a simple scale. Ever baked a cookie using the same recipe, yet somehow it turns out slightly different each time? That is because when measuring by volume, you can’t be as precise. It is vital that your ingredient ratios are accurate for a reliable bake every time.
How long does the Rice Krispies Treat Recipe last in the fridge?
Honestly? Not long. I would best suggest making this recipe the same day you plan to eat them. They’ll last another day or so if wrapped tightly and you’ve let all the air out of the container. But I would do you best to demolish all these rice krispies treats as soon as possible.
