Ah the Pull-Apart Christmas Tree Pizza! The perfect date night dinner for two during the holidays. Or a great appetizer to bring to your next holiday gathering. Everyone will be coming back for seconds and thirds until there is nothing left.

I love the base homemade pizza dough that this recipe uses. It’s so simple and comes together in just under 15 minutes. You can grab that ebook exclusive recipe in “A Loaves Collection” along with other exclusive recipes and baking basics!

The Process

Preheat the oven to 500ºF.

After preparing the Homemade Pizza Dough recipe (which can be found as one of the exclusive recipes from “A Loaves Collection”, dump the risen dough onto a floured surface.

Divide the dough into two equal parts and, using your hands, give the dough a gentle shaping into a rectangle. Set one of them aside.

Grab a piece of parchment paper and sprinkle it with corn flour. Place one of the dough rectangles onto it. Then using a roller, start to roll out the dough into a long rectangle that is twice as long as it is wide.

Once complete, repeat with the other piece of dough, making sure the rectangles are roughly the same size.

On one of the dough rectangles, gently trace a giant triangle onto it, without fully cutting through the dough. Just enough to give you some guidance on where to place the pizza ingredients.

Then, dollop the tomato pesto inside the triangle and spread it around. Do your best to stay inside your stenciled triangle. Sprinkle your cheese, seasonings and any other toppings you’d like! I like to add a light olive oil drizzle as well.

Then, gently place the other rectangle dough on top of the one with the fillings. Use a sharp knife and this time fully cut through both dough sheets so you are left with just a triangle! Keep the extra dough scraps though because you can use them to make more pizzas and a star for the top of the tree. (I normally get two more personal sized pizzas out of this dough recipe)

Using the sharp knife, cut strips on each side to create the “branches” and then twist each branch. Place the cut out star that you made from the dough scraps on the top of your christmas tree.

Then place the sliced cherry tomatoes around the top of the dough to look like ornaments. Drizzle the finished tree with olive oil and sprinkle with basil.

Finally, place the pull-apart christmas tree pizza in the oven and bake for 5 – 10 minutes, until golden brown!

Remove from the oven and let it cool a bit before devouring! This pizza is great when served with a little warmed marinara sauce on the side.

The Tips

How can I get the recipe for the Homemade Pizza Dough?

The Pull-Apart Christmas Tree Pizza begins with my homemade pizza dough recipe which is an ebook exclusive recipe in “A Loaves Collection”, the first ever recipe book from Baking by Cece. You can purchase that recipe along with other ebook exclusives here

Why do you use tomato pesto instead of tomato sauce?

For this recipe, I prefer tomato pesto because it is a bit more “thick” and therefore doesn’t leak out as much when building the tree for this recipe. You can absolutely use regular tomato sauce, but go a little light on the sauce so it doesn’t run too much when you are twisting the “tree branches”.

Why is this recipe in Grams?

Baking is a science and in science you want things to be exact and precise. The best way to do this is by weighing out your ingredients using a simple scale. Ever baked a cookie using the same recipe, yet somehow it turns out slightly different each time? That is because when measuring by volume, you can’t be as precise. It is vital that your ingredient ratios are accurate for a reliable bake every time.

How long does the Pull-Apart Christmas Tree Pizza last in the fridge?

This is a great appetizer for all your holiday gatherings or even a great meal for a date night for you and your loved one. That means the Pull-Apart Christmas Tree Pizza is best served fresh! However, if you need to bake it ahead of time, wrap it tightly and place in the fridge. Before serving, reheat it in the oven at 400ºF for 5-8 minutes, until warm!
